In your pursuit of happiness there are many things to learn. Here's some comments and advice on things you'll probably try out, and some ideas for things you may not have thought to try. Information and ideas to steer you in a positive direction in these areas of the pursuit of happiness.
Color and Emotion
Color surrounding you in your home and colors you wear impact your emotions. Did you know that each color has a different vibration? And they really affect our health and emotions? You've heard the expression "seeing red", referring to anger. Do you feel serene in a green wood or forest? What are the helpful/unhelpful choices of color in your pursuit of happiness?
Music and Emotion
Have you noticed that different types of music affect our moods? What is it about a syncopated beat that makes people jittery? How can waltz music be so good for you? Have a peek at how different types of music affect your aura. See why classical music lifts your mood in a way that doesn't lose energy. Why is rock music associated with sex and drugs? What is the wise choice of music to help you in your pursuit of happiness?
Emotions and Aromatherapy
Did you know that different aromas have an effect on our mood? You might be familiar with lavender as a calming tool. What are the aromas that can help you in your pursuit of happiness?
Yoga and Emotions
Have you ever practiced yoga? Can yoga affect your emotions? How does it do that? Well, I think it's to do with the mind/body connection. Whenever I've finished a yoga session I feel energized and relaxed at the same time.
Happiness is Pets
Some people say happiness is pets. Certainly pets can do a great deal to increase your overall level of happiness and well-being. Studies have shown benefit of pets for people who live alone, I've certainly enjoyed my time with the various cats I've had over the years. Having a dog encourages you to get fresh air and exercise which releases endorphins - the hormones that make you happy.
Wealth and Happiness
Wealth isn't necessary for happiness (monks are happy) and it doesn't necessarily mean happiness (some rich people are unhappy) but it certainly makes life easier to have all the things you need and want available. The key is to remember that some rich people are happy and others are unhappy. Some poor people are happy and some are unhappy.
It is not in itself a determiner of happiness but with wealth in your life you have more opportunities to do things that contribute to your happiness - following your dreams, giving to others, etc. I must add here that wealth isn't just about money, and it can be an important step in our pursuit of happiness.
Receiving money, especially 'extra' or unexpected money, can make us happy. But the happiness isn't enduring - it doesn’t last very long. It doesn't contribute to raising our overall level of happiness unless we can find a way to use that money to improve ourselves or our lives in a meaningful, more permanent way - essentially using it as an investment in our own happiness. This is possible. The short-lived joy will be replaced by an incremental rise in our life satisfaction and happiness level. We can rise to the next step on the staircase.
There certainly are ways to use money to improve oneself for increased life happiness. If you want to receive more money you could check out this money affirmations list.
Religion and Happiness
Can religion help you in your pursuit if happiness? What about spirituality? And what do religions teach about happiness and how to experience it?
Happiness at Work
You can either find a job that you're passionate about doing, start a business doing something that your passionate about, or choose to pay attention to the good things about your current job. For help finding a career that suits you, read What Color Is Your Parachute?. To start a business that's focused on your passions, take a look at Site Build It!
To find the good things about your job...well, that's up to you because I'm not you and I don't know your job. Some ideas: Do you like the fact that you get to talk with different people every day? Are you relieved you get to keep away from people every day? Do you enjoy working with your colleagues? Is it great that you get to learn or master certain skills? Can you rejoice in the fact that you get to take home some money every week/month and provide for yourself/your family? If you genuinely can't find enough good things about your job, then it's probably time to move on in life. Another job or a business-building opportunity like SBI! would be good places to start.
Sugar High
Did you know that sugar and all its relatives affects your emotions? The sugar high gives short-lived happiness followed by long-lived woes until you have more sugar, and you go up and down and up and down until you shoot your insulin glands and become diabetic. The lows seem like they're completely natural even though they're not really 'you' and it can even take me a while to figure out why I'm feeling some negative emotion. When I start to think 'hey, I'm not usually like this!' and then invariably I remember some sugar I ate earlier that day. Because I don't eat sugar as a matter of course, the sugar blues really stand out in my life. When I did eat sugar as a matter of course I was frequently severely depressed and I frequently hid away to cry for no apparently good reason.
I hope these ideas have helped you. Let me know your adventures in these (or other) areas and I may add your story about your pursuit of happiness to the site.
